For Immediate Release: February 4, 2011; Sold-out world tours have brought South Africa’s The Parlotones to the attention of music fans in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Benelux, Russia, the US and the UK. This multi-platinum, multi-award winning band will bring their electric, polished stage presence to Canada for two separate shows in March during their 2011 North American tour.

March 10th The Parlotones perform at Canadian Music Week’s Factor Breakthrough Series at the El Mocambo and hit Vancouver’s Biltmore Cabaret on March 26th.

Comprised of Kahn Morbee (vocals, guitar), Glen Hodgson (backup vocals, bass, piano) Paul Hodgson (Guitar) and Neil Pauw (drums), The Parlotones have become a form of South African royalty with their deftly crafted romantic lyrics, atmospheric pop structures, and ambitious live shows.  The rock 4-piece achieved multi-platinum status in their home country, selling more records than Coldplay, Oasis, and The Killers combined.

Stardust Galaxies, the bands sixth album and debut North American album contains lyrical insights into the stories, and social and political struggles of their homeland, with a rock, folk, and Doo-Wop backing to each meaningful song. The album won Best Rock Album at the 2010 South African Music Awards while “Push Me To The Floor” won Best Music Video Of The Year.

Their innovative, big-production music videos have been nominated for MTV awards and won two awards at the prestigious ISC (International Song Contest), in the US, judged by the likes of Robert Smith, Tom Waits and Rob Thomas. In November 2009, fans packed the Dome in Johannesburg and helped the Parlotones make history as it was the first time a South African band headlined this venue – the CD/DVD “Live Design” documenting the event, bears testimony to this.

High profile performances in South Africa including the 2009 President’s Inauguration, Africa Day, Live Earth and more recently a live performance in front of over 1 billion people at the 2010 World Cup Kick-Off Celebration, have established The Parlotones as one of the world’s most exciting new acts.  International showcases at South by Southwest, MIDEM, and Dubai Sound City have only increased the bands growing fan-base.  The band have shared the stage with Kings of Leon, The Gossip, Violent Femmes, Jimmy Eat World, New Model Army, Evanescence, Staind, The Rasmus, UB40, Collective Soul, and in 2005 Metallica, who opened for  The Parlotones at The Coke Fest.

The Parlotones success is not limited to their music alone – the band has their own brands of wineGiant Mistake’ and ‘Push me the Floor’ which has earned the band a no.1 spots in the Sunday Times wine list and distribution through major European retailers. (The third variant “We Call This Dancing” has just been released). Their music has also been made available in a limited edition pre-release format on a cellular handset, they have their own branded laptop, a designer running shoe and even a campaign that included a Parlotones meal available from a global food retailer.
